The Rolling Sale – FINAL ROUND!

FIGHT!

No, I’m kidding. But most of you who had a childhood in the 90s probably thought that. But moving on …

So, in a surprise, last second upset, Unusual Events sold enough to unlock the fourth sale tier for Colony! Which means that Colony, starting next week, will be 50% off!

Except it won’t.

Okay, that was mean. What I meant to say before I gave into the urge to yank the rug out from beneath you guys is that due to Amazon’s 90-day cycle being in the middle of a renewal next week, if Colony did go on sale starting Monday, said sale would also end Tuesday, since you can’t crossover between cycles.

So yeah, this one’s partially Amazon’s fault for having such a dumb restriction in the first place, and partially my fault for not seeing it coming in the first place.

However, this does not mean all is lost. No, the sale is still going to happen. Just it will be delayed by a few days. Possibly until Friday (you have to put these sales in a few days in advance, so with Wednesday being the renewal day) … I swear it’ll come as soon as I can make it happen.

However, I feel bad, since I know for a fact many of you were waiting eagerly for Monday (I’ve gotten e-mails and messages to that effect). And this one was kind of my own fault, so to make up for it, I’m upping the reward tier to rank five.

That’s right, Colony won’t be 50% off. It’ll be 63% off. And I’m thinking I’ll make the sale go for seven days as well, as an additional apology for the delay.

So yeah, extra discount and two extra days to rack up sales for the final reward tier.

What’s that? You thought Colony would be the end of it? Oh no … I’ve got a surprise coming. But I’ll save that for another post. But suffice it to say that you can expect that copies purchased during this sale will … well, you’ve seen how the rolling sale has worked thus far. So you might be able to hazard a guess.

Regardless, that’s the news for today. Apologies for the delay, sincerely, and I’ll see you all Monday.

The Dragon Awards Now Open for Voting!

I got the e-mail last night, and am about to open it and cast my votes! The nomination phase is complete, and now it’s time to vote on the year’s best Science-Fiction and Fantasy!

If you’ve nominated, you’ve probably already received your e-mail telling you to vote, but if not, you can sign up to receive a ballot here and get cracking!

Again, I have no idea what’s on the ballot, since I haven’t opened it yet. I’m doing that and casting my votes as soon as this post goes up. But I’m eager! And excited!

Go vote!

EDIT: And done! I have voted! Now to wait!

Colony didn’t make the final list, sadly. Ah well, it was a long shot, though I do know it had a couple of nominations, at least if I trust my fans, which I do. Next year, Dragons! I’ve got a fantasy-western coming out soon!

Rolling Sale Update!

In just over a day, One Drink has moved 99 units! Halfway to unlocking the next sales tier for Dead Silver! Keep it rolling! If it can hit enough, Dead Silver ends up free!

Don’t forget: If you’ve already purchased a copy of One Drink, a review on Amazon or Goodreads counts as 10 units moved, so you can still help tick that number up by jumping on one or both places and leaving your opinion on the book! Or you can just do the classic thing and share the sale!

Be sure to watch that counter in the upper-left tick along! We’re halfway to the second reward tier!

The Rolling Sale is ON!

Round one is here, and the rolling sale is underway! See that sweet counter in upper left? That’s keeping track of all the status of the sale so far! What’s on sale, what’s up next, what the next unlock is, and of course the next title coming down the pipe with that achieved unlock.

So don’t forget! Spread the word and get those units moved! Or leave a review on Amazon or Goodreads! The clock is ticking. Dead Silver is currently sitting at 33% off, but it can go much, much lower!

Don’t know what a Rolling Sale is? Confused or curious? You can read up on it here.

Knee’d-ful Things (A News Post)

Yes, that title is pungent. As was that. Gotcha looking though, I hope. Because it’s time for the news update! There are a couple of things to bring up, from an injury, to new fiction, to progress on Jungle, Patreon, and info on a Rolling Sale! So keep reading!

So first, why the pun in the title? Well … because one of the things that’s been controlling my life lately has been a knee injury I acquired last month at my part-time job. And on Wednesday, at long last, I got to go see a doctor!

So, turns out I tore my meniscus, which is why I was limping everywhere and pretty much couldn’t walk for a short time (a few weeks, really). It still hurts and swells up a little if I walk very far at all. But the good news? It’s not a permanent injury. Or at least, it doesn’t look like it. If it’s not healed in a few weeks I need to go back and get it looked at again, this time with an MRI, but at the moment the doctor’s pretty sure that it’ll make a full recovery. Now I just need to worry about collecting my workman’s comp (this was a work-related injury) and hope it’s enough to keep me financially solvent. In the meantime, I’m wearing a brace or a wrap everywhere (up from just the brace) and taking anti-inflammatory meds to help with the swelling.

I’ve never wanted to be able to go on a walk so much in my life. I can’t wait to be able to get exercise again.

Anyway, that’s the news on the injury. May I be walking fully again soon! So, onto the next bit of info!

Extra! Extra! Breaking News!

Hey readers! I’ve got two items of good news for you today!

The first? Well, you know that collection of short stories I wrote? You know, the one Unusual Eventscalled Unusual Events: A “Short” Story Collection on account of most of the stories not really being that short?

That one? You know it? Good. Because it’s just experienced a price drop! Yup, that’s right. Unusual Events is now a year and a half old, which means that it has reached the vaunted status of “VETERAN.”

Fancy words, really, but what they mean is that you can now pick up Unusual Events for only $5.99! Those of you who have been waiting for this day to arrive, it is here! Click the link above there, or the cover on the right, to go right to the page and pick up your own copy!

Unimpressed? I’d ask what you’re doing here, but you’re the master of your own destiny, not I. Anyway, time for that second announcement! Patrons! Those of you who donate monthly to help ensure that I can keep writing Being a Better Writer! June’s Patreon reward is up, and it’s a retrospective on Dead Silver! Ooooh! Peer into the mad mind of an author!

You won’t go mad. I promise. And you’ll see some fun stuff. If you liked Dead Silver, and want to learn more about what went into its creation, hit that link!

All right, that’s it for now! Over and out, people!

Price and Profit

So I learned something rather embarrassing a week ago.

Since the release of Colony, one of the more common questions I’ve received from fans about it has been “How should I purchase your book in order to make sure you get the largest cut of money?” Which is actually a pretty valid—and thoughtfully appreciated—question. This question comes from a reader who isn’t just concerned that they read a book, but that the author of said book is able to support themselves to the next one. Some of you may be scratching your heads even so, though, thinking to yourselves “Wait, I thought it was just an ebook?” Well it is, but there are two ways you can acquire it.

The first is to simply impart money to Amazon.com ($7.99 in this case, unless there’s a sale going) for a digital, DRM-Free copy of Colony. And for many readers, that’s what they do. However, I’m also a fan of putting my books up on Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited Program, which is kind of like a Netflix for books, and that means that it’s also available to those paying for the KU program to read whenever they want. Now, KU pays authors, but the question from these readers is “Which way pays you more?”

And it turns out, in giving my answer, I screwed up.
